She first made an appearance an actor in 1997 at age 13. [2] After taking several classes, and working as a background actor for Canadian programs like Road to Avonlea and Harriet the Spy In 1997, she landed her first role as a speaker in the Canadian children's horror series Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of The Dark?, both series were broadcast on YTV. Following commercials, she had guests as stars in Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, and several Disney Channel original films (Mom's Afraid of A Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), when she was 19 and attending York University[12] where she was studying Psychology and English. Vandervoort was offered the lead role of Sadie Harrison in the CTV Teen drama Instant Star, which was on for four seasons. In 2006, Vandervoort was in her debut film, a feature titled The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode as well as Isla Fisher. Vandervoort was cast in Smallville in a drama serial that airs on The CW. The role she plays in the show is that of Clark Kent's Kryptonian "Kara Kent" and the one who would later be Supergirl. It was her first regular on the show in season seven she also appeared in"Bloodline", the "Bloodline" episode for season eight. [3] In the tenth season, and the final episode of Smallville She returned for two more episodes. Vandervoort filmed the sequel film to Into the Blue, titled Into the Blue 2 - The Reef.
